The Machine Learning and Data Mining for Sports Analytics (MLSA) workshop aims to bring people from outside of the Machine Learning and Data Mining community into contact with researchers from that community who are working on Sports Analytics. The 7th edition of the workshop was co-located with the European Conference on Machine Learning and Principles and Practice of Knowledge Discovery (ECML PKDD 2020).

In 2020, the workshop received 22 submissions of which 13 were selected after a single-blind reviewing process involving at least 3 Program Committee members per paper. Of these papers, 3 were extended abstracts and are therefore not included in the post-proceedings. The contributions covered a wide range of sports, including the ever popular soccer but also climbing, cricket, cycling, ice hockey, and long-distance running. Topics included tactical analysis, outcome predictions, data acquisition, performance optimization, and player evaluation.
